Culture

The Chatgaiya dialect and regional songs, the tradition of the mezban feast, and Jabbar's Boli Khela wrestling at Laldighi every 12 Boishakh (late April).

History

An ancient seaport visited by Ibn Battuta in the 14th century. In 1930 Masterda Surya Sen led the armoury raid. In 1971 the declaration of independence was broadcast from the Kalurghat radio station.

How to get there

5–6 hours from Dhaka by train or bus; 45 minutes by air to Shah Amanat International Airport.
