Culture

Famous for khadi cloth. Birthplace of composer S. D. Burman; poet Kazi Nazrul Islam also spent long periods here.

History

Centre of the ancient Samatata region; Shalban Vihara dates from the 8th-century Deva dynasty. Allied soldiers of World War II rest at Mainamati.

2–3 hours by road from Dhaka; trains also run.
