Culture

Chhayanaut's dawn concert under the Ramna banyan tree on Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year), the month-long Ekushey Book Fair in February, and the Shakrain kite festival of Old Dhaka in mid-January.

History

Subahdar Islam Khan made Dhaka the Mughal capital of Bengal (Jahangirnagar) in 1610. It was the heart of the 1952 Language Movement and the 1971 Liberation War, and is the capital of independent Bangladesh.

How to get there

Connected to the whole country by road, rail (Kamalapur station) and river (Sadarghat). Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is the main gateway.
